Top 5 Solar Myths

Although solar has been around for decades, there is still a lot of miscommunication and confusion about the construction and lifespan of the panels.

Take a look at these 5 common solar myths:

Myth: Solar panels create a great amount of glare.

Truth: Solar panels use non-reflective glass and are designed to absorb rather than reflect light. Solar panels are generally less reflective than windows.

Myth: Solar farms are loud.

Truth: The only noise generated from a solar farm is a slight buzzing noise that comes from the inverters as electricity is converted from direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC). The noise is typically not heard outside of the fence.

Myth: Solar Farms will decrease property values.

Truth: Mitigation measures to reduce the visible impacts of solar farms such as planting trees help ensure that property values will not decrease.

Myth: Solar farms are like factories.

Truth: Solar farms are clean, quiet facilities and have generally no employees except for maintenance.

Myth: Electromagnetic Fields are harmful.

Truth: Electromagnetic fields generated by solar facilities are similar to household appliances and pose no health risks to neighboring residents.
